Jermaine Crawford

Jermaine Crawford is an American actor known for his roles in various television series and feature films. He gained recognition for his groundbreaking portrayal of Duquan “Dukie” Weems on the critically acclaimed HBO series “The Wire.” Crawford’s performance on the show was widely praised for its authenticity and emotional depth. He again partnered with the team behind “The Wire” on the HBO limited series “We Own This City” in 2022. His other TV roles include “Person of Interest” and “The Get Down.” In the fifth and final season of “The Wire,” the character Dukie, although only a teenager, ends up homeless, addicted to drugs, and living on the street.

Crawford was so impacted by the crisis that he founded the Code Blue Campaign in 2008, a nationwide initiative focused on raising funds and awareness for homeless youth. Code Blue Campaign partners with brands, organizations and people to create products and experiences that fight youth homelessness and the injustices of social and racial inequity in the United States. In June 2023 Code Blue partnered with S.P.Y (Safe Place for Youth), raising over $125,000 for homeless youth in Los Angeles. Crawford is still very passionate about the arts. He most recently stepped behind the camera, serving as series creator, writer and producer. In January 2023, Variety magazine reported that Crawford has teamed up with actress, Keke Palmer (Nope) and writer, Amy Aniobi (Insecure) to develop a new comedy series, the “Unfriendly Black Hotties” for HBO Max.
