After aging out of foster care, most young people are left without the foundation they need to flourish. It is a foundation that the average young American adult might take for granted – family, community and home.
The average young adult lives in their parents’ home
- 58% of youth live with their parents
- 59% of parents financially support their children until age 29
- 60% of this financial support goes towards furniture, homewares, and other housing costs
Most foster youth do not have access to parental support
While we cannot ever replace the loss of family, ASOH offers more than shelter—we provide a place to land, a space to heal, and the support to rise. ASOH literally affords a sense of home as well as a sense of community. And very importantly a space where growth is encouraged, and strength is built from the inside out. Empowering home environments allows survival to give way to thriving, and where strength is nurtured through safety, belonging, and hope.
Everyone deserves to hear these words” Welcome Home”. At ASOH after we cheer “Welcome Home” as each space is revealed with intention and love, offering not just shelter but emotional grounding, community support, and the stability needed to thrive. It’s more than a place to live—it’s a path to healing, identity, and independence.
At home, at last, former foster youth rise, thrive, and belong. For every young person who never felt safe enough to dream ASOH’s Former Foster Youth Program is where hope begins. It is a safe place to rest, rise, and rediscover self.
