Rachel is a visionary and strategic leader, bringing 20 years of experience successfully scaling non profit organizations in Los Angeles. A dynamic, collaborative and highly regarded community leader in the youth housing and foster care sectors, Rachel has demonstrated significant outcomes in preventing homelessness through community-based action, innovative program development and building strategic partnerships.
Prior to being appointed as ASOH’s Chief Executive Officer, Rachel served as ASOH’s Executive Director in Los Angeles for three years, strategically expanding the organization’s impact and reach on youth aging out of foster care. Under her leadership, ASOH has increased the number of foster youth served annually by 65%, created access to 500+ affordable housing units for foster youth to rent, and significantly expanded the supportive services and resources available to individuals and families to ensure their long term housing stability, health and success. Rachel also created and led the launch of a landmark pilot program with the LA County Department of Child and Family Services, moving upstream to prevent homelessness for youth exiting foster care with housing vouchers . This initiative created a seamless pipeline from foster care to stable housing, aligning public systems and community resources utilizing ASOH’s scalable, evidence-based “Three Step Pathway to Stability” model.
Prior to her time with ASOH, Rachel spent 8 years building Safe Place for Youth, creating housing and supportive services for young people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. It was during her time there that she witnessed the direct correlation between the foster care system and homelessness and became determined to create change and provide opportunities for young people to thrive. Under her leadership, the organization grew from an operating budget of $400,000 to $12 million, doubling revenue annually, and creating housing and resources that never existed for youth experiencing homelessness in West LA.
Before serving as Deputy Executive Director at Safe Place for Youth, Rachel worked with organizations including United Way of Greater Los Angeles, Los Angeles Waterkeeper and ORT America. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Rachel is passionate about addressing the systemic root causes of homelessness and working together with the community to create preventative solutions.
As Chief Executive Officer of ASOH, Rachel has a deep commitment to advancing ASOH’s mission, embracing the organization’s rich legacy, and bringing the unique model to serve foster youth everywhere. She is devoted to ensuring that all youth, regardless of their circumstances, are given the opportunity to feel a sense of home and belonging, and to be empowered to thrive, not just survive.
